Culture Department India Tourism records major gains in profitThe India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) has declared a dividend of 20% on paid up capital amounting to Rs. 13.50 crore for the year 2006-07. This is the fist dividend declared since 1998-99. At a function here today, Chairman and Managing Director, ITDC Shri Parvez Dewan presented a cheque of dividend to Tourism and Culture Minister Smt. Ambika Soni. During 2006-07, ITDC made a profit of Rs. 105.18 crore before tax as against Rs. 51.57 crore during 2005-06 which represents a 104% increase in profits over previous year. read more » Private papers from Shri Amar Kumar Jhingan acquiredIn connection with the implementation of programme of Acquisition of Private Papers of eminent Indian Nationals, who have played a significant role in the history of India, National Archives of India today acquired Private papers of Shri Amar Kumar Jhingan, a literary figure of Hindi literature. At a function here, the private papers were handed over to DG, National Archives of India Sh. Luv Verma by Sh. Jhingan himself. Since he was born at Kolkata on 23rd September 1934, Sh. Jhingan is greatly related to Bangiyha Hindi Parished. His papers consists of Pandulipi/ Tarpatra (in Tamil of 15th or 16th Century); Sar Sudha Nidhi – a weekly Newspapers published from Kolkata, from 1882-1887 (in Hindi 5 vols.); Stray Magazines/ Periodicals/ Booklets & papers etc. of historical & research value including some copies of Abhudaya, Milap published from Lahore, Hindi Samachar Patra Suchi (1826-1925), Photographs of Old literary figures, Late Acharya Govind Narain Ji Misra and his relating thoughts, Govind Nivandawali, Rashtrabhasha Sandesh – Hindi Sahitya Ka Mukhpatra, file containing his correspondence with eminent political personalities. The collection is of historical importance and valuable and would be used by the research scholars visiting this Department from India and abroad. Completion and commission of all tourism projects by December, 2008The Union Tourism Ministry has been according top priority to development of tourism in the area, since tourism has great potential for employment generation and economic growth. This was stated by the Union Tourism Secretary Sh. S. Banerjee recently while reviewing the progress of projects sanctioned to the State Governments for development and promotion of tourism in the North-Eastern Region. He said during the 10th plan period a total amount of Rs.319 crore was released to the North Eastern states including Sikkim, as against the mandatory provision of 10% amounting to Rs.269 crore. read more » Authorities satisfied with Taj Mahal security arrangementsShri Atul Kumar, ADG (Security) Uttar Pradesh, Superintending Archaeologist, ASI, Agra alongwith Senior Officers and Members of Standing Committee of Security of Taj Mahal visited and inspected the entire Taj Mahal Complex including the security equipments installed recently They were satisfied with the security arrangements at Taj Mahal. According to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), responsible for the Taj Mahal Security, there is no security threat to Taj. All CCTV Cameras installed in 2005 at East, West, South and Main Gate of Taj Mahal are intact and working properly as on date.
