Governor delivered lecture in Summer Law Programme at Shimla

Shri V.S. Kokje, Governor of Himachal Pradesh delivered a lecture on 'India's Legal Profession and Judicial Process in comparative Perspective to the participants of 13th Annual Summer Law Programme at Hotel Oberoi Clarks Shimla today. The Summer Law Programme has been authorized by the Accreditation Committee of American Bar Association, Section of Legal Education. The participants of the programme are drawn from all the Law Universities of United States of America and India.

Shri Kokje interacted with the students and faculty members and discussed various aspects of the India's Legal Profession and Judicial Process in Comparative perspective. He said that profession of law has been a very important vocation in India. In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries it was the main profession adopted by a majority of educated Indians. It was, therefore, natural that most of the leaders of India's freedom movement belonged to the profession of law and lawyers were also in the forefront of social reform in India, he added.

Shri Kokje further said that the main problem being faced by the Indian Judicial system today is the explosion of number of cases pending before various courts because of growing population, spread of awareness of rights, all round development absence of alternate dispute resolution bodies etc. the litigation has gone up.

Mrs. Trisha Sharma, Coordinator of Summer Law Programme in India welcomed the Governor.

Ms. Marianne Artusio, Director of Clinical Education, Touro Law Centre proposed the vote of thanks.

Prof. Amer Singh Sankhayan, Prof. S.N. Sharma, Prof. Dhiman, Dr. Raghuvansh Singh, all from H.P. University, faculty members of Touro Law Centre were present on the occasion among others.
